J.-C. Au cours des ier si\u00e8cle et iie si\u00e8cle ap. J.-C., la ville s&rsquo;\u00e9tend sur plus de 200 hectares et les \u00e9changes commerciaux y sont prosp\u00e8res. Situ\u00e9e \u00e0 la m\u00eame hauteur que Dijon (Divio), elle se situait en territoire \u00e9duen.<\/p>\n<p>Son nom d&rsquo;origine gauloise signifie, selon les interpr\u00e9tations, centre de la plaine ou plaine du centre.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;Ouche toute proche \u00e9tait alors navigable et permettait de relier le couloir de la Sa\u00f4ne puis du Rh\u00f4ne o\u00f9 \u00e9taient import\u00e9s divers produits dont les vins. La datation des amphores et fragments retrouv\u00e9s sur le site a permis aussi de rep\u00e9rer l&rsquo;importation de vins grecs ou italiens (\u00c9trurie) et des \u00e9changes de produits alimentaires avec la r\u00e9gion de Lyon.<\/p>\n<p>Au xie si\u00e8cle, les M\u00e2lain-Sombernon construisent une forteresse sur l&rsquo;\u00e9peron rocheux qui domine le village.
